Lehigh Valley Phantoms
A team of professional ice hockey players in the American Hockey League based in Allentown, PA, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms has been the top minor league affiliate for the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers beginning from 1996 up to 1997 season.
From the team's birth during the 1996-97 seasons, the Phantoms were popularly known as the Philadelphia Phantoms and played in the Philadelphia Spectrum, were the Philadelphia Flyers used to play. Under this name, the team bagged four Division Titles, played and won in the Calder Cup Conference Finals thrice and brought home two Calder Cup Championships. The Phantoms played their last game inside the Spectrum on April 2009. The past owners of the Philadelphia Phantom franchise sold the team in 2009 due to the demolition of the Philadelphia Spectrum.
During the season of 2009 to 2010, the Phantoms migrated to Glens Falls, New York. During their time in upstate New York, the Phantoms played in six different contests in Philadelphia. This includes five regular season games inside of what we now know as the Wells Fargo Center. The other game in Philadelphia happened in the Citizen's Bank Park, the home of their rival Philadelphia Phillies. In the season of 2013-14, the Phantoms used the name Adirondack Phantom. The team played a total of five AHL seasons. In 2011, the franchise owners announced their plan to build a new modern arena in Downtown Allentown, Pennsylvania where the team later moved.

It was during the beginning of the 2014-15 seasons that the Phantoms became popular as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. They started playing out the brand new PPL Center established in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In their third season as the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, they qualified for the Calder Cup and had a strong finish at second place in the Atlantic Division. It was one proud moment for the Phantoms because it was the first time in five years that they were able to play in the Calder Cup Playoffs. In seasons 2016-17, they won the Atlantic Division Title and moved on to the Eastern Conference Finals, for the first time since 2005.
In January of 2017, the Phantoms organized the 2017 AHL All-Star classic. This was the second time the Phantoms hosted the league's All-Star events.
The team's official mascot, MeLVin was launch in 2014. The LV, practically means Lehigh Valley, the team's home. He wears a jersey with number 55, written in Roman numerals, LV. Although the name is not as appealing as the other teams' mascot names, it is popular among the locals because of its obvious reference to Lehigh Valley.
To date, the Phantoms recorded the longest game in AHL history in May 2018. Alex Krushelnyski ended the longest game in the 82-year history of AHL by scoring at 1:09 am in the fifth overtime of the game. It was an amazing way to cap the night for the Phantoms and the cheering crowd.
The Phantoms are now on its fifth season in the Lehigh Valley. The team gives back to their community through charity events with the help of the franchise's charitable institution, Phantom Charities.
